The Leigh Longhorns will square off against the Bret Harte Bullfrogs at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Leigh is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
Leigh is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Soquel just ended the team's 11-game winning streak on Friday. They fell just short of the Knights by a score of 7-6.
Marcus Glanville put in work no matter where he played. He pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Glanville was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
Glanville wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Noah Miller, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Cooper Low was another, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Bret Harte). They blew past Riverbank 18-4 on Friday. The victory was familiar territory for the Bullfrogs, who have now won three games in a row.
Like Leigh, Bret Harte also got a great game from a two-way player: Sawyer Maurer. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). Those nine strikeouts gave Maurer a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Landon Camacho and Bryce Lenard did most of the damage at the plate: Camacho scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances, while Lenard scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Those two hits gave Lenard a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Uriah Gish, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Bret Harte always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .524. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.
Leigh's defeat dropped their record down to 11-2. As for Bret Harte, their win bumped their record up to 12-6.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Leigh has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9 hits per game. However, it's not like Bret Harte struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.6 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
