Football Recap: Americas Comes Up Short

Americas lost against Franklin back in September of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Trail Blazers were outmatched by the Cougars and fell 73-20. While losing is never fun, the Trail Blazers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 506th, while the Cougars are ranked 248th).

Despite the loss, Americas still got an impressive performance from Camron Johnson, who rushed for 130 yards and one TD while picking up 8.1 yards per carry, and also caught one score. Maurice Edwards also helped out with an impressive 100 receiving yards.

It was another big night for Ernie Powers, who rushed for 185 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 7.7 yards per carry, and also caught one score for Franklin. Powers showed off some serious burst, cutting through the defense on one rush that went for 52 yards. Another player making a difference was Lucas Garza, who threw for 170 yards and three TDs on only 13 passes.

This is the second loss in a row for Americas and nudges their season record down to 2-2. As for Franklin, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-1.

Americas and Franklin will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Trail Blazers are set to square off against their familiar foe Parkland at 6:30 p.m. on the 26th. Meanwhile, Franklin will challenge rival Coronado at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
