The Torres Toros will be playing in front of their home fans against the Sanger West Hornets at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Sanger West took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Torres, who comes in off a win.
Last Tuesday, Torres strolled past Sunnyside with points to spare, taking the game 55-38.
Torres' success was spearheaded by the efforts of Sabrina Cerrillo, who scored 15 points along with six steals and five assists, and J'Lynn Mitchell, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 13 rebounds. Cerrillo hasn't dropped below two steals for 11 straight games. Kaylin Perez was another key contributor, scoring five points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Sanger West came up short against Fresno on Tuesday and fell 33-24. While losing is never fun, Sanger West can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 991st, while Fresno is ranked 303rd).
Torres' victory bumped their record up to 12-7. As for Sanger West, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost seven of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-13 record this season.
Everything went Torres' way against Sanger West in their previous matchup back in February of 2023 as Torres made off with a 50-27 win. Will Torres repeat their success, or does Sanger West have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
