Brush dropped down to 14-6 on Wednesday, ending the team's four-game streak of wins. They took a 6-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Northridge Grizzlies. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Beetdiggers couldn't push the score so high this time.
Elizabeth Peckham was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI.
Peckham wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jolie Tuck, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run. Tuck has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played.
As for Northridge, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 14-9 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games.
Like Brush, Northridge also got a great game from a two-way player: Brooke Riofrio. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Riofrio was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Noelle Rodriguez, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last 13 matchups. Keagan Hood was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Coming up, Brush will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Weld Central at 4:00 p.m. The Rebels have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.82 runs per game on average), something the Beetdiggers will no doubt try to take advantage of. Northridge does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
