Football Recap: Gadsden Starts Season with Victory at Home

Gadsden gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Saturday. They took their game with ease, bagging a 50-20 victory over the Chaparral Lobos. With the Panthers ahead 28-7 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Gadsden to victory, but perhaps none more so than JUAN RIOS, who rushed for 156 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 9.2 yards per carry. What's more, RIOS posted two rushing touchdowns, the most he's had since back in September of 2024. DEION TORRES was in the mix too, providing Gadsden with two TDs.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Gadsden was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 364 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Chaparral only rushed for 144 rushing yards.

Chaparral's loss came despite strong showings from Raul Lopez and Israel Nieto. Lopez gained 163 total yards and two touchdowns, while Nieto rushed for 42 yards and one score.

Gadsden wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 35-12 win against Valencia on the 29th. As for Chaparral, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 33-26 victory against Hatch Valley on the 29th.
