The Laguna Beach Breakers will square off against the Norco Cougars at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Laguna Beach comes in on seven and Norco on ten.
Laguna Beach is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 victory over Summit.
Thomas Gonzales was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed four innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Lucien Reed and Becker Sybirski did most of the damage at the plate: Reed went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI, while Sybirski got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI and one double. Another player making a difference was Dylan Yencho, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
The home team had won the previous two meetings between Norco and Centennial, and Norco kept the tradition alive. The Cougars were the clear victors by a 9-2 margin over the Huskies on Thursday. Considering the Cougars have won 12 matchups by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Dylan Seward was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Elijah Alvarez, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Laguna Beach's win was their 12th straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 25-3. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Norco, their win bumped their record up to 21-8.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Laguna Beach has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Norco struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
