Despite the defeat, Southwood saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Lola Winer went 6 for 8 on her way to 13 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Winer has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Hali Pershing, who posted eight points along with five boards and four steals.
Jaci Crick was her usual excellent self, putting up 16 points and three steals for Mississinewa. What's more, Crick also racked up four assists, the most she's had since back in December of 2023. Charleigh Baledge was another key player, posting 11 points.
Southwood's loss ended a five-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 3-5. As for Mississinewa, the victory made it two in a row for them and also bumps their season record up to 3-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Southwood and Northfield will meet in a classic North v. South matchup at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Mississinewa, they will venture away from home to face off against Oak Hill at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. The timing is sure in Oak Hill's favor as the team sits on five straight wins at home while Mississinewa has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.
