It's automatic every Monday and Tuesday during the boys prep basketball season. High school basketball fans from all corners of the state login to their computers hoping the school they are loyal to moved up in the rankings, took over the top spot, or made the climb into the rankings.
But what about the national rankings? Oh what a coup that would be, to find your alma mater alongside traditional powers Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth, Calif.), McEachern (Powder Springs, Ga.) or Salesian College Preparatory (Richmond, Calif.). Heck, landing a Top 100 ranking would be pretty cool, too.
Well, this week we did that work for you. Scouring through the MaxPreps National Rankings, we unearthed the current national ranking for each member of Nebraska's Top 10 boys basketball teams.
While the Cornhusker State is not represented in the Top 25, top-ranked Aurora did crack the Top 315 at No. 312. Ogallala, Nebraska's No. 2 club is now a member of the Top 350 at 346th and Gretna sits in at No. 362. Bellevue West and Omaha Roncalli Catholic round out the Top 5 at 363rd and 416th respectively out of the 19,582 schools that now reside in MaxPreps' National Rankings database.
Classes A, B and C1 are all represented in this week's Top 10. Bancroft-Rosalie/Lyons-Decatur Northeast, the top squad in Class C2, ranks 17th in Nebraska and 1,398th nationally, while Class D1's No. 1 club Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family is ranked 35th in Nebraska and 2,291st in the national rankings. Riverside, the best club in Class D2, ranks 16th in Nebraska and 1,379th nationally. Nebraska's 11th best squad, Omaha Creighton Prep also ranks in the Nation's Top 1,000 at 973rd.
We used Tuesday's rankings for this week's Top 10. As you browse through the Top 10, listed on the top line is the name of the school, its won-loss record in parentheses and the school's MaxPreps power ranking.
