Where do Nebraska's top girls basketball teams rank nationally?

It's automatic every Monday and Tuesday during the girls prep basketball season. High school basketball fans from all corners of the state login to their computers hoping the school they are loyal to moved up in the rankings, took over the top spot, or made the climb into the rankings.

But what about the national rankings? Oh what a coup that would be, to find your alma mater alongside traditional powers Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth, Calif.), Pinewood (Los Altos Hills, Calif.) or Bishop McNamara (Forestville, Md.). Heck, landing a Top 100 ranking would be pretty cool, too.

While the Cornhusker State is not represented in the Top 25, top-ranked Hastings St. Cecilia did crack the Top 175 at No. 164. Waverly, Nebraska's No. 2 club, is now a member of the Top 300 at 291st and West Point-Beemer sits in at No. 539th. North Platte St. Patrick's and Wahoo round out the Top 5 at 736th and 761st respectively out of the 15,014 schools that now reside in MaxPreps' girls basketball national rankings database.

Classes B, C1, C2 and D1 are all represented in this week's Top 10. Millard South, the top squad in Class A, ranks 12th in Nebraska and 997th nationally, while Class D2's No. 1 club Falls City Sacred Heart is ranked 24th in Nebraska and 1,655th in the national rankings. Besides the Top 10 teams, and Millard South, Class C1 No. 6 Mitchell also ranks in the nation's Top 1,000 at 981st.
