Video: Top 10 Football Plays of the Week Steve Montoya and Chris Stonebraker tackle the best from the past week.
With Eric Behrens leading the way, Omaha Central went on one of those basketball runs that every high school dreams about, winning seven Class A boys state basketball titles from 2006-13. This week's Top 10 bears out just how dominant the Eagles were during that run as we take a look at the Top 10 Nebraska boys basketball teams from 2005-06 through last season.
Although the Eagles have dominated the past 13 seasons, it is Omaha Creighton Prep's Josh Luedtke that put together the era's top boys basketball team in 2014-15. Featuring a roster loaded with the likes of
Drew Homa,
Tommy Pritchard,
Tyson Smiley,
Nate Schimonitz and
Will Schenken, Creighton Prep finished 12th nationally and put together a 27-2 mark in claiming its third state basketball championship of the era.
Behrens 2012-13 squad is considered Omaha Central's best basketball team during the current era according to MaxPreps' Basketball Rankings. While the Eagles did finish a Top 10 best eighth nationally, they did post a 43.3 power ranking, second to Creighton Prep's 43.6 which is the basis for this week's Top 10. Omaha Central comes in at Nos. 2, 4, 5 and 6 in this week's Top 10. Omaha South's Bruce Chubick put together Nebraska's third best squad in 2014-15 and placed his 2012-13 club in the No. 8 spot.
In all, just five basketball programs made this week's Top 10. Omaha Central, Omaha South and Bellevue West all placed multiple teams in the Top 10. South Sioux City's 2010-11 Class B state champions managed the No. 9 slot after posting a 24-2 mark and a No. 46 ranking nationally. Bellevue West (2013-14) and Omaha Central (2010-11) tied for the No. 6 spot this week.
Only Classes A and B were represented in this week's Top 10. However, we did dig a little deeper and came up with the top squads in each of the lower classifications. Pierce's 2007-08 club is tops in Class C1, Aquinas produced the best Class C2 squad in 2005-06, Archbishop Bergan came out on top in Class D1 with its 2007-08 edition and Falls City Sacred Heart produced the finest Class D2 squad a year ago.
