Two dominant guards in Hannah Diaz and Jazmaine Stewart are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Chavez Titans will be playing in front of their home fans against the Farmersville Aztecs at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Chavez comes in on five and Farmersville on three.
Winning is just a little bit easier when you make five more threes than your opponent, a fact Chavez proved on Thursday. They snuck past Kennedy with a 48-44 victory.
Diaz was her usual excellent self, scoring 26 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Chloe Lopez, who scored six points.
In what's become a running theme this season, Farmersville gave their fans yet another huge victory on Thursday. They took their match on the road with ease, bagging a 61-20 victory over Wonderful College Prep Academy. Given Farmersville's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 582nd, while Wonderful College Prep Academy is ranked 1205th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Farmersville found their leader in underclassman Stewart, who dropped a double-double on 32 points and 11 rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Stewart has scored at least a third of Farmersville's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Estrella Valencia, who scored six points along with nine steals.
Chavez has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 matches, which provided a massive bump to their 13-9 record this season. As for Farmersville, their victory bumped their record up to 20-7.
