The Tamaqua Blue Raiders entered their tilt with the Mahanoy Area Golden Bears with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. Tamaqua simply couldn't be stopped on Saturday as they easily beat Mahanoy Area 56-22 at home. Considering Tamaqua has won five games by more than 20 points this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Tamaqua's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Makayla Bartenope, who scored 12 points along with three steals. Bartenope continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Lauren Ligenza was another key contributor, scoring six points along with seven steals.
Tamaqua pushed their record up to 9-1 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Mahanoy Area, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-6.
Tamaqua will play host again and welcome Pine Grove, where tip off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Pine Grove will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Rankings (they are ranked 528th, while Tamaqua is ranked 121st). As for Mahanoy Area, they will head out on the road to face off against Marian Catholic at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Marian Catholic is coming into the match hot, having won their last seven games.
