Fans were treated to a battle of the Tigers on Thursday. Mark Twain's pitcher stepped up to hand Wellsville-Middletown a 17-0 shutout. Mark Twain has beaten Wellsville-Middletown the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest Wellsville-Middletown has come to flipping the script.

Maylie Boling was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, she posted four strikeouts, the most she's had since back in September of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Emmy Lane, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one run. Another player making a difference was Ella Moss, who got on base in both of her plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
Mark Twain was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. They are 2-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Community got the win against Canton on Saturday by a conclusive 9-3.
Like Mark Twain, Community also got a great game from a two-way player: Jocelyn Curtis. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. Curtis was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Peyton Schafer was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Kaytlynn Arens was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI.
Mark Twain's record now sits at 5-7. As for Community, their record is now 4-9.
Mark Twain's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's game. The Tigers have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Community, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Mark Twain continue to outrun the ball?
Mark Twain took their victory against Community in their previous meeting back in September of 2024 by a conclusive 17-7 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
