Loomis is 2-8 against Amherst since December of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. Thorell has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Grady Keeshan was another key player, putting up seven points and seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, Amherst was fully in charge on Saturday, breezing past South Loup 61-30. With the Broncos ahead 42-16 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Loomis better focus on containing Gavin Davis and Carson Riessland as the pair were huge in Amherst's win. Davis shot 70% from the field en route to 15 points along with six boards and three steals, while Riessland went 6-for-14 to rack up 20 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryker Boersma, who posted nine points and seven assists.
Amherst was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Loup only posted six.
Amherst has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 68.0 points this season. As for Loomis, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.
Loomis couldn't quite get it done against Amherst in their previous meeting back in December of 2024 as they fell 65-52. Can the Wolves avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
