The Pine Lake Prep Pride will take on the Corvian Community Cardinals at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Pine Lake Prep is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9 runs per game this season.
Corvian Community will be up against a hot Pine Lake Prep team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. Pine Lake Prep put the hurt on Lake Norman Charter with a sharp 10-2 victory on Thursday. The Pride might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by six runs or more this season.
Trey Schubert made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That one hit allowed gave him a new career-low. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. That stolen base was his first of the season.
In other pitching news, Carson Schroeder looked comfortable as he tossed 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in February of 2024.
Back at the plate, Dylan Brandt was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. Alec Brown was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.
Meanwhile, Corvian Community came into Wednesday's game having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They came out on top against Leadership Academy by a score of 6-1 on Wednesday.
The team relied heavily on Gavin McElhinny, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Corvian Community is undefeated when McElhinny posts three or more RBI, but 1-6 otherwise.
Pine Lake Prep pushed their record up to 7-2 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Corvian Community, their victory bumped their record up to 4-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Pine Lake Prep has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Corvian Community struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Pine Lake Prep beat Corvian Community 5-0 in their previous matchup on Monday. Will Pine Lake Prep repeat their success, or does Corvian Community have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
