The Sage Creek Bobcats will be taking part in a tournament against the San Marcos Knights at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Sage Creek 3.8, San Marcos 1.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Sage Creek's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Arapahoe 2-0. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bobcats.
The result came thanks to Elijah Stephens's shutout, as he gave up just two hits and racked up eight Ks. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April of 2024.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Max Biehl, who went 2-for-3 with one triple and one RBI.
Sage Creek hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Arapahoe struck out eight times.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for San Marcos, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They were the clear victors by an 8-0 margin over Maranatha Christian on Tuesday.
San Marcos also got a great performance from Carter Tsai as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over 5.2 innings pitched. Tsai also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because San Marcos is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 1-2 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Evan Hall was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Isaac Esquer, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Sage Creek pushed their record up to 5-3 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for San Marcos, their victory bumped their record up to 4-2.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Sage Creek hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like San Marcos struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
