The Minarets Mustangs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their seventh straight defeat. They took a serious blow against Chowchilla, falling 63-24. Minarets was down 45-21 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.
Leading Chowchilla to victory were Nour Escheik and Shalaya Moore. Escheik dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Moore dropped a double-double on 12 points and 16 rebounds. Escheik has been hot recently, having posted nine or more rebounds the last eight times she's played. Another player making a difference was Bella Gonsalves, who scored 12 points along with five steals.
Minarets dropped their record down to 3-10 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 22.3 points per game. As for Chowchilla, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 10-9 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Minarets will take on Fresno Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Minarets comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 24 points in their last six games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. As for Chowchilla, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Parlier at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Chowchilla has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
