One team took the elevator way up and another took it way down in the power rankings this week. There's a new number one at the head of the rankings as well as a new caboose.
Can't Touch This
Owatonna got a 37 - 9 win over Mayo last week, and a key reason for the win was senior Jason Williamson. Williamson earned two touchdowns and 270 yards rushing the ball. That performance landed Williamson among the top power-ranked players for the week.
This Week's Big Showdown
One of last week's main attractions was the confrontation between Lakeville North and Eden Prairie, 1st and 2nd in the power rankings, respectively. Lakeville North came out on top against Eden Prairie with a 14 - 0 win. The victory raised Lakeville North up three spots in the power rankings.
No Stoppin 'Em
Melrose and Paynesville went up, up, and away last week as they combined for the highest point total (79) among all power ranked teams. The final score between Paynesville and Melrose was a 58 - 21 blowout in Paynesville's favor. Hopefully the win is satisfying enough on its own since Paynesville actually slipped one place in the power rankings.
Next Week's Big Game
If you are itching to watch a first-rate contest, no game is supposed to fit the bill better than the one between Prior Lake (3rd in the power rankings) and Eden Prairie (2nd). Prior Lake will be strutting in after a win while Eden Prairie will be stumbling in from a defeat. Will Prior Lake repeat its success, or will Eden Prairie bounce back and dish team a loss?
