The Grove City Eagles's three-game losing streak came to an end on Friday. They strolled past Mercyhurst Prep with points to spare, taking the game 56-42. For Grove City, this counts as revenge for the 47-46 loss Mercyhurst Prep walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2022.
Mercyhurst Prep's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Maddox Brzuz, who scored ten points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Brzuz has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Derek Bly, who scored seven points along with six rebounds.
Grove City's victory bumped their record up to 2-3. As for Mercyhurst Prep, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-2.
Grove City won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against South Allegheny on December 16th. South Allegheny presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Grove City in Pennsylvania (South Allegheny is ranked 31st, while Grove City is ranked 351st). Mercyhurst Prep will be home for the holidays to greet Northwestern at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Northwestern is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
