Gridley has gone a perfect 8-0 against Live Oak recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. Gridley will challenge Live Oak at 4:00 p.m. Gridley's pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so Live Oak's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Gridley barely beat Colusa the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Gridley blew past Colusa 13-0 on Friday. That looming 13-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Bulldogs yet this season.
Garrett Francis made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. That double was his first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tanner Abbott, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2. He also put up an RBI, which was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Eli Punzo, who scored three runs while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.
Gridley hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Colusa struck out six times.
Meanwhile, Live Oak fell victim to Los Molinos and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They lost 23-0 to the Bulldogs. It was the first time this season that the Lions let down their fans at home.
Gridley pushed their record up to 4-3 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games. As for Live Oak, their loss dropped their record down to 7-3.
Everything went Gridley's way against Live Oak in their previous meeting back in February of 2022, as Gridley made off with a 25-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Gridley since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
