Wolfson and Stanton are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2019, but likely not for long. The Wolfpack will host the Blue Devils at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
On Thursday, Wolfson didn't have quite enough to beat First Coast and fell 13-12. The defeat continues a trend for the Wolfpack in their meetings with the Buccaneers: they've now lost four in a row.
Paxton Frederick made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Cam Wiggins, who went 2-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Stanton won against Parker on Tuesday with 17 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Wednesday. The Blue Devils' pitcher stepped up to hand Riverside a 17-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Blue Devils, who have now won seven matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Jayden Justo tossed a big game, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched.
At the plate, Hayden Foster was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Yandi Torres, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one triple.
Stanton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .541. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Riverside only posted an OBP of .125.
The victory was the third in a row for Stanton, bringing their record up to 9-2. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Wolfson, they now have a losing record of 5-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Wolfson has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Stanton struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Wolfson got the 'W' when the teams last played back in April of 2025 against Stanton by a conclusive 13-3 score. Do the Wolfpack have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Blue Devils turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
