The Frontier Titans will face off against the Central Grizzlies at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Frontier is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season.
Frontier easily dispatched Hanford on Friday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. Frontier fell just short of St. Joseph by a score of 8-6 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Titans have suffered since April 30, 2024.
Frontier got a good showing from Jack Schaefer, who tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, Schaefer posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March of 2024.
On the hitting side, Kale Martin was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI. Jaylen Tia was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Central's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell just short of Hanford by a score of 4-2.
Central saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Adan Flores, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. Eli Gaucin also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Frontier's defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 3-2. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Central, the loss was their first on the road , dropping their record down to 3-2.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Saturday. Frontier hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 2.2 home runs per game. However, it's not like Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Everything went Frontier's way against Central when the teams last played back in March of 2024, as Frontier made off with a 10-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Frontier since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
