The North Iredell Raiders are taking a road trip to square off against the Mooresville Blue Devils at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. North Iredell has given up an average of 33.8 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
North Iredell's offense might be in the hot seat on Friday considering what happened against Davie County on Friday. They were outmatched by the War Eagles and fell 35-0. While losing is never fun, the Raiders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 298th, while the War Eagles are ranked 59th).
Meanwhile, everything came up roses for Mooresville against South Iredell on Friday as the squad secured a 48-10 win. The result was nothing new for the Blue Devils, who have now won four matchups by 28 points or more so far this season.
North Iredell better keep an eye on Brody Norman. He was instrumental in Mooresville's win, throwing for 215 yards and three TDs while completing 76.5% of his passes, and also punching in one touchdown on the ground. Norman's passing game has become a key predictor of the Blue Devils' success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 110 or higher, but only 1-2 otherwise. Gavin Barber was another key player, picking up 103 receiving yards and a pair of scores.
Mooresville's run defense was locked in: South Iredell could only muster 1.8 yards per carry. While three picked up at least four total tackles, Amir Childs stood above the rest. He picked up a sack and made four total tackles (4.0 for loss). Mooresville's ground attack was stronger, having averaged 4.3.
Mooresville's defense didn't let the opposing QB, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for five sacks. That dominant display was truly a team effort as five different players picked up one apiece. Jordan Cleaves got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
The victory made it two in a row for Mooresville and bumps their season record up to 4-2. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 24 points in those games. As for North Iredell, their loss dropped their record down to 1-5.
North Iredell might still be hurting after the 43-21 defeat they got from Mooresville when the teams last played back in November of 2016. Thankfully for the Raiders, Donshel Jetton (who rushed for 162 yards and four TDs on only ten carries) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
