Football Game Preview: Simi Valley Pioneers vs. St. Bonaventure Seraphs

For the first time this season, Simi Valley will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. After each having a week off, they and the St. Bonaventure Seraphs will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Simi Valley's favor is that they have posted at least 31 points in their last three matchups.

Simi Valley had to skate by with only a two-point margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 20-point drubbing they dealt Thousand Oaks last Friday. The Pioneers blew past the Lancers 48-28. The Pioneers haven't had any issues with the Lancers recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Simi Valley's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Connor Petrov, who rushed for 64 yards and a pair of TDs on only seven carries, and also threw for 289 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 13.1 yards per attempt. Those 289 passing yards gave Petrov a new career-high. Another receiver making a difference was Quentin McGahan, who picked up 183 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Simi Valley was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 212 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Thousand Oaks only rushed for 66.

Meanwhile, St. Bonaventure was not able to break out of their rough patch last Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were two points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 16-14 heartbreaker at the hands of Oak Hills. While the Seraphs had to settle for second, they closed the game well in the third quarter, where they outscored the Bulldogs 7-2.

Simi Valley's victory bumped their record up to 2-3. As for St. Bonaventure, they now also have a losing record of 2-3.

Simi Valley strolled past St. Bonaventure when the teams last played back in October of 2024 by a score of 42-28. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Seraphs' Koen Glover, who rushed for 226 yards and two TDs while picking up 11.9 yards per carry, and also picked up 50 receiving yards. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be easier for the Pioneers to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
