After flying high against the Capistrano Valley Cougars last Tuesday, the Mission Viejo Diablos came back down to earth. Mission Viejo was outmatched by Dana Hills at home and fell 59-30. Mission Viejo has struggled against Dana Hills recently, as their match on Thursday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the defeat, Mission Viejo saw an underclassman step up: Sofia Gozzo scored 12 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Angelique Wright was another key contributor, scoring five points along with nine rebounds and two steals.
Leading Dana Hills to victory were Brooklyn Akason and Kayla Rice. Akason scored 15 points along with three steals, while Rice scored 17 points along with three steals. Akason hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Lola Bellon, who scored six points along with two blocks.
Mission Viejo has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-14 record this season. As for Dana Hills, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 17-3 record this season.
Mission Viejo will head out on the road to square off against El Toro at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. El Toro is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 50.7 points per game. As for Dana Hills, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Capistrano Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Capistrano Valley is coming into the match on a six-game losing streak.
