Approximately 10,000 fans showed up for a huge Minnesota showdown on Wednesday night as
Wayzata (Plymouth, Minn.) upended traditional power Eden Prairie 9-0 in a battle of 7-0 teams.
According to the
Pioneer Press, Tyler Scott booted three short field goals - of 27, 25 and 20 yards - and the Wayzata defense did the rest.
Eden Prairie came in averaging almost 38 points per game and more than 330 yards rushing per outing, but linebacker Ryan Poppitz and lineman Ryan Shook led the Wayzata defensive charge.
This was a showdown of the top two AAAAA teams in Minnesota.
With the victory, Wayzata (8-0) claimed the Lake Conference title. Remarkably, Eden Prairie (7-1), never reached inside the Wayzata 20-yard line.
"I never
expected to shut
them out, but we were able to take away some things they like to do,"
Wayzata coach Brad Anderson told the Pioneer Press. "That's all you can ask of a defense."
Offensively, Wayzata, which won its 19th straight game, got 100-yard rushing games from Erik Roti (115 yards) and Antonio Ford (101 yards).
