Mitchell hasn't had much luck against McDowell recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Mountaineers will square off against the Titans at 6:30 p.m.
Sullivan East hit Mitchell with a six-run seventh inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Mountaineers fell 10-6 to the Patriots.
Mitchell got a good showing from Riley Silver, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. That's the fewest earned runs Silver has allowed since back in March of 2025.
On the hitting side, Jett Williams made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. AJ Mackey was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for McDowell, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Patton on Friday, sneaking past 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Titans have posted since April 1, 2025.
Hayden Shelton made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched five innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. Shelton was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2025.
In other batting news, Kaine Boone was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Mitchell's defeat dropped their record down to 0-3. As for McDowell, their win ended a five-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Mitchell has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like McDowell struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Mitchell couldn't quite get it done against McDowell in their previous meeting back in April of 2025 as they fell 11-7. Can the Mountaineers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
