Turner County extended their losing streak to four on Monday, dropping them down to 2-13. They fell 23-19 to the Dougherty Trojans. Even if the Titans couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.
Diamond Wilson was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, four runs, and four RBI. Aalunah Edwards was another key player, going 1-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
As for Dougherty, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-11. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
On Dougherty's side, Jalexi Thomas made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over 5.2 innings while giving up four earned (and seven unearned) runs off only two hits. Thomas has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. The dominant performance also gave Nelson a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was Sasha Hill, who went 4-for-5 with seven stolen bases and four runs.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Turner County will face off against Echols County at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Dougherty, they will welcome Deerfield-Windsor at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Knights have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.55 runs per game on average), something the Trojans will no doubt try to take advantage of.
