Cherryville had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. Everything went their way against the Cornerstone Charter Academy Cardinals on Wednesday as they made off with a 12-6 victory. The result was nothing new for the Ironmen, who have now won 15 games by six runs or more so far this season.
Karter Willis looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Brock Bumgardner was excellent, firing off two home runs, seven RBI, and one double while going 3-for-5. Those seven RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kenan Fowler, who went 2-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.
The win was the sixth in a row for Cherryville, bringing their record up to 24-4. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Cornerstone Charter Academy, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 16-11.
