Baseball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Soquel

Soquel put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. Everything went their way against the Woodside Wildcats as the Soquel Knights made off with a 9-3 win. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Knights also won the last time the pair played back in February of 2024.

Jake Escalante made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

In other pitching news, Soquel got a great performance from Dylan Hull as he pitched five innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Hudson Summerrill, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was Gabe Virgallito, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Soquel kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in three consecutive contests.

Soquel pushed their record up to 4-0 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Woodside, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Coming up, Soquel will face off against Pacific Grove at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Soquel's pitching crew has only allowed two runs per game this season, so Pacific Grove's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Woodside, they will take on Lincoln at 3:30 p.m. on Monday.
