University is a perfect 8-0 against Resurrection Christian since August of 2020 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Bulldogs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Cougars at 4:00 p.m. University will be looking to extend their current nine-game winning streak.
University is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Colorado's top teams: Eaton, who was ranked 12th at the time (University was ranked 17th). The Bulldogs skirted past the Reds 8-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Bulldogs have posted against the Reds since October 23, 2021.
Sydney Goetzel made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Emma Zacheis was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Another player making a difference was Bergen Duarte, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
University kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive contests.
Resurrection Christian never got on the board in their matchup last Thursday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Platte Valley on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Broncos with a sharp 15-4 victory. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won five games by 11 runs or more so far this season.
Like University, Resurrection Christian also got a great game from a two-way player: Jailah Hamilton. On the mound, she pitched six innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. Hamilton was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Olivia Martinez, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in August. Portia Hattig was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.
University's win bumped their record up to 19-2. As for Resurrection Christian, their victory bumped their record up to 7-9.
Resurrection Christian's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: University has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.4 hits per game. It's a different story for Resurrection Christian, though, as they've been averaging 9.4 hits. Given University's sizable advantage in that area, the Cougars will need to find a way to close that gap.
University took their win against Resurrection Christian in their previous meeting back in October of 2024 by a conclusive 25-3 score. Do the Bulldogs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cougars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
