After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Crenshaw, the Sylmar Spartans were happy to have found some success on Saturday. They skirted past Bravo 42-40. Given Sylmar's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 313th, while Bravo is ranked 737th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Mia Ceja, who scored 24 points. That makes it six consecutive games in which she has scored at least 25% of Sylmar's points. Brianna Cordova was another key contributor, scoring seven points.
Sylmar's victory bumped their record up to 8-3. As for Bravo, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-9.
Sylmar and Van Nuys will face off at 4:30 p.m. on January 10th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Van Nuys is on a five-game streak of home wins, Sylmar a six-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season)-- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. Bravo will take on Franklin at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Franklin's defense has only allowed 26.5 points per game this season, so Bravo's offense will have their work cut out for Bravo.
