Prairie - North recap Sept. 26, 2012
Barnesville extended the longest winning streak in Prairie - North this week by beating Upsala/Swanville, 22-14. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
Wadena-Deer Creek made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 11,665 from 12,708. The improvement was the result of 52-36 victory over Long Prairie-Grey Eagle last week.
Evan VanErp and Jacob Krause gave the Wolverines a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. VanErp threw for 22 yards and one touchdown, while Krause ran for 120 yards. Blaine Cooper also contributed to the rushing game with 118 yards on the ground.
Colton Kruzel was the best wideout in the league this week as the Patriots lost to Barnesville. Kruzel tallied four receptions for 44 yards. Garrett Wolf helped Upsala/Swanville's passing attack out by catching four balls for 24 yards.
Chris Steward made the biggest impact on defense this week as Wadena-Deer Creek defeated the Thunder. The senior racked up two sacks.
Howie Kangas's team's VanErp and Andrew VanErp have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. VanErp has thrown for 297 yards this season, while VanErp has 13 catches for 169 yards. Upsala/Swanville's Mitch Lange leads the league in rushing yards with 476.
A big matchup in Prairie - North this week will be when the Trojans take on United North Central co-op [Menahga/Sebeka]. At the moment, Barnesville is in first, while the Warriors are in fifth.
The Wolverines led the league in scoring this week after putting up 52 points on Long Prairie-Grey Eagle. VanErp ran for 106 yards in the win.
