Cartersville extended their winning streak to three on Thursday, bumping them up to 14-2. They never let the Southeast Whitfield County Raiders get on the board and left with an 8-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Hurricanes, who have now won eight matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Presley Crabbe looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Sophia Harper, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. She continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Sam Porter, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one triple.
Cartersville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in August.
As for Southeast Whitfield County, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss they have suffered since August 14th.
On Southeast Whitfield County's side, Chyann Blevins spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and six unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up six Ks.
At the plate, Southeast Whitfield County saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Blakilee Byers, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.
We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Cartersville will square off against rival Allatoona at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Hurricanes 1.8, the Buccaneers 3.9) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Southeast Whitfield County is set to face off against their familiar foe Dalton at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
