The Carlsbad Cavemen/Cavegirls will head out on the road to square off against the Alamogordo Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Carlsbad will be strutting in after a victory while Alamogordo will be coming in after a defeat.
Carlsbad not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since September 27, 2024 (when they won 56-8). They blew past Organ Mountain, posting a 35-7 win. The Cavemen/Cavegirls pushed the score to 35-0 by the end of the third, a deficit the Knights cut but never quite recovered from.

A big part of Carlsbad's victory came down to the chemistry between MARLEY MUNOZ and his top target ROBERT CASTANEDA. MUNOZ rushed for 149 yards and a pair of TDs on only 12 carries while CASTANEDA picked up 142 receiving yards and three scores. That's the most receiving yards CASTANEDA has posted since back in September of 2024.
Carlsbad's run defense was locked in: Organ Mountain could only muster 2.4 yards per carry. The team can thank COLTON MCKIBBEN for the heroic effort on defense: he. Carlsbad's run defense has been on the up-and-up: they allowed 3.98 yards per carry earlier this season, but they've only allowed 6.23 on average over their last five games.
Carlsbad didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as RIO SANCHEZ, TY YOUNG, and LENNON ANANINS picked up one apiece. SANCHEZ is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made five or more in each of the last four games he's played.
Meanwhile, Alamogordo faced Centennial in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Tigers took a 42-32 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Hawks. The Tigers have struggled against the Hawks recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Carlsbad will have to contain Bryson Bloom as he made an impact in Alamogordo's last game. He rushed for 159 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 13 carries, and also threw for 25 yards and one TD. Bloom's longest rush was for an incredible 79 yards. Nathanael Cereceres got in on the action too, returning a kick for a touchdown.
The win made it two in a row for Carlsbad and bumps their season record up to 4-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 38.0 points over those games. As for Alamogordo, their loss dropped their record down to 4-3.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Carlsbad has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 168.3 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Alamogordo struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 262.1 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Carlsbad didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Alamogordo when the teams last played back in October of 2024, but they still walked away with a 26-21 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cavemen/Cavegirls since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
