The Cambridge Trojans struggled with threes on Thursday (the Southwest Roughriders had five more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Cambridge fell to Southwest 37-33. Cambridge has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
When it comes to explaining why Cambridge lost, one person who can't be blamed is Brylyn Springer. Despite the final result, she scored 14 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Springer is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Jalen Kent was another key contributor, scoring six points along with two steals.
Southwest's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kyra Nelms, who scored 16 points along with four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Payton Truksa, who scored 15 points.
Cambridge's loss dropped their record down to 10-7. As for Southwest, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 12-6 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cambridge will take on Bertrand at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Bertrand is no doubt hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses. As for Southwest, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Dundy County-Stratton at 6:00 p.m. Hopefully Dundy County-Stratton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Thursday.
