The Point Arena Pirates will head out on the road to challenge the Grace Christian Academy Lions at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a seven-game winning streak alive.
Point Arena is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Laytonville with a sharp 21-4 win on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Pirates, who have now won six games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Aidan O'Neil made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. O'Neil was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.
In other batting news, Point Arena got a massive performance out of Cody Chavez, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Makya Oropeza also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Point Arena kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 25 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in March of 2024.
Meanwhile, Grace Christian Academy made easy work of Laytonville last Tuesday and carried off a 10-1 victory. Considering the Lions have won three matches by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Point Arena, Grace Christian Academy also got a great game from a two-way player: Leif Jackson. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 12 over six innings pitched. Jackson has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts any time he's pitched this season. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBI.
In other pitching news, Laytonville's batters probably weren't too happy with Owen Hall, who pitched a no hitter (he gave up a single walk).
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Erik Sannaman, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and one RBI. Ty Trabucco was another key player, going 3-for-5 with one run.
Point Arena pushed their record up to 8-4 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Grace Christian Academy, their record is now 7-0.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Point Arena has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .648. However, it's not like Grace Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .451. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance. Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
