Baseball Game Preview: Tulare Union Tribe vs. Arvin Bears

The Tulare Union Tribe will take on the Arvin Bears in a tournament on Monday.

Tulare Union is headed into the game having just suffered their closest defeat since April 11, 2024 on Friday. They fell just short of Dinuba by a score of 5-3.

Brayden Stevenson made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. He has become a key player for Tulare Union: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 1-10 otherwise.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Arvin). They blew past Del Oro 20-3 on Thursday. The win continues a trend for the Bears in their matchups with the Suns: they've now won five in a row.

Alex Nunez made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. Nunez was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Noe Perez, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Uriel Colchado also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Arvin always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .605. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matches.

Arvin pushed their record up to 10-6 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Tulare Union, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season.

Tulare Union couldn't quite finish off Arvin when the teams last played back in March of 2024 and fell 19-17. Can the Tribe avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
