Football Recap: Boyd Starts Season with Victory on the Road

Boyd had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They took their match on Friday with ease, bagging a 57-6 victory over the Howe Bulldogs. The win continues a trend for the Yellowjackets in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won four in a row.

Hunter Etter was nothing short of spectacular: he picked up 79 receiving yards and a pair of TDs. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in receiving touchdowns (two).

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Boyd's defense and their six sacks. In that department, Jess Withers was the leader with three. He has been hot, having also posted seven or more total tackles the last six times he's played. Maddox Parks was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making seven total tackles (3.0 for loss).

Howe's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Deacon Bender, who rushed for 90 yards, and Rylan Strong, who picked up 88 receiving yards and one touchdown. The bulk of those receiving yards came from one huge play: a catch that gained an incredible 82 yards.

Boyd has already played their next game, a 26-21 victory against Jacksboro on the 5th. As for Howe, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 21-0 win against Bonham on the 5th.
