Baseball Recap: Antelope Valley Takes a Loss

Antelope Valley extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping them down to 4-11. They lost 13-3 to the Palmdale Falcons. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Falcons this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-7 on Wednesday.

Antelope Valley saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Adrian Gutierrez, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and two RBI. That triple was Gutierrez's first of the season.

As for Palmdale, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-12 record this season. The game marked their most dominant victory of the season.

On Palmdale's side, Ivan Morales was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over four innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. Those six strikeouts gave Morales a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Palmdale: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 5-11 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Xavier Mejia, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Matthew Gibbons was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Antelope Valley will venture away from home to take on Highland at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bulldogs' pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so the Antelopes' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Palmdale, they will head out on the road to square off against Littlerock at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The Lobos have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.17 runs per game on average), something the Falcons will no doubt try to take advantage of.
