Woodmore is 0-7 against Hopewell-Loudon since April of 2017 but things could change on Monday. The Wildcats will be playing in front of their home fans against the Chieftains at 5:00 p.m. Woodmore is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
On Friday, Woodmore came up short against Gibsonburg and fell 10-6.
Calvin Lipstraw was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Collin Perkins was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Michael Seeger was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Hopewell-Loudon didn't have quite enough to beat Mohawk on Saturday and fell 2-1. The game marked the Chieftains' lowest-scoring match so far this season.
Hopewell-Loudon also got a good showing from Asher Smith, who pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That one hit allowed gave Smith a new career-low.
On the hitting side, Hopewell-Loudon saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brody Brickman, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Hopewell-Loudon's defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-5. As for Woodmore, their loss dropped their record down to 15-8.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Woodmore has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Hopewell-Loudon struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Woodmore couldn't quite finish off Hopewell-Loudon when the teams last played back in April and fell 4-2. Will the Wildcats have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
