Basketball Recap: Hemet's Win on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Eight

Hemet had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 24 points) and they went ahead and made it eight on Thursday. Everything went their way against the Orange Vista Coyotes as they made off with a 51-31 win. The Bulldogs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine contests by 20 points or more this season.

Hemet got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Ruby Lindsey out in front who went 6 for 15 on her way to 14 points and five steals. Lindsey is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed four or more in the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ruby Gonzalez- Horta, who posted seven points along with eight rebounds and three steals.

Hemet smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in 14 consecutive games.

When it comes to explaining why Orange Vista lost, don't look at Taniyah Hutcherson. Despite the final result, she put up 23 points. That was a full 74.2% of Orange Vista's points, marking the 19th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.

Hemet's win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 20-4. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 27.7 points per game. As for Orange Vista, they have been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 12 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-15 record this season.

Hemet will head out to square off against Liberty at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Hemet is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.3 points per game this season. As for Orange Vista, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Rancho Verde at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
