Baseball Recap: St. Anne-Pacelli Comes Up Short

St. Anne-Pacelli had lost six straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped down to 5-15 to make it seven. They fell just short of the Columbus Blue Devils by a score of 6-5. The Vikings were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Blue Devils earlier this season, when they won 7-4.

Cam Carino was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last six games he's played.

As for Columbus, they have been performing well recently as they've won 13 of their last 16 matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 14-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games.

On Columbus' side, Michael Nottleman made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out ten over six innings pitched. Nottleman was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two doubles. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, Ren Smith was excellent, firing off two home runs and three RBI while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was David Vega, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. St. Anne-Pacelli will square off against Central at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Columbus, they will take on Glenwood at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Blue Devils 3.7, the Gators 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
