The Niwot Cougars will venture away from home to face off against the Silver Creek Raptors at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Niwot has now lost nine straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since September 16.
Roosevelt hit Niwot with a four-run sixth inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Cougars fell just short of the Roughriders by a score of 6-4.
Mandy Roth spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks.
At the plate, May Herrera was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Silver Creek, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Overland with a sharp 15-4 victory on Thursday. The Raptors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by six runs or more this season.
Silver Creek also got a great performance from Rylyn Fordham as she struck out 13 batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk).
On the hitting side, Keyshia Vigil-Rabun was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Kendyll Foley also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Silver Creek always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Overland only posted an OBP of .318.
Silver Creek's record now sits at 11-8. As for Niwot, their loss dropped their record down to 6-15.
Niwot took their win against Silver Creek in their previous meeting back in October of 2024 by a conclusive 10-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
