High school girls basketball rankings: Montverde Academy cements No. 1 spot in MaxPreps Top 25 with GEICO Nationals title

With one national event remaining on the 2022-23 high school girls basketball schedule, No. 1 Montverde Academy (Montverde, Fla.) remained in the top spot after winning GEICO Nationals over the weekend. It was the second straight event title for the Eagles, who erased a 14-point halftime deficit to beat No. 2 Long Island Lutheran (Brookville, N.Y.) 60-54.

Illinois commit Cori Allen and South Carolina commit Sahnya Jah were sensational in the comeback effort, combining for 28 points. The victory moves Montverde Academy to 25-1 on the season with a loss to No. 7 Sidwell Friends (Washington, D.C.) as the only blemish.

This week's action centers around the State Champions Invitational in Washington, D.C. The six-team field is filled with teams in the MaxPreps Top 25, including Sidwell Friends, No. 5 Morris Catholic (Denville, N.J.), No. 16 Lone Peak (Highland, Utah), No. 17 Dr. Phillips (Orlando, Fla.), No. 18 Desert Vista (Phoenix) and No. 20 Centennial (Las Vegas).

The results should shuffle the rankings, but won't affect Montverde Academy's ranking.
