Sheldon is headed into Monday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their seventh straight game on Friday. They came up short against Franklin, falling 24-0.
Meanwhile, Pleasant Grove entered their tilt with McClatchy on Saturday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They walked away with a 7-4 win over the Lions. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.
Matt Emmons looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Pleasant Grove let Breydan Boyle and Nolan Underwood run wild. Boyle scored a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while Underwood went 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave Underwood a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Cole Davis, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Pleasant Grove's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-6. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Sheldon, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-10.
Pleasant Grove's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Monday. Sheldon has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Pleasant Grove, though, as they've been averaging only 4.1 strikeouts. Will Sheldon keep running through batters, or will the Eagles buck the trend?
Sheldon couldn't quite finish off Pleasant Grove in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 and fell 3-1. Can the Huskies avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
