Oakwood is 8-2 against Hoopeston since April of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. Riglee Hart made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double. He has become a key player for Oakwood: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-6 otherwise.
Hoopeston came out on top against Iroquois West on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run fourth inning. The Cornjerkers were the clear victors by a 13-7 margin over the Raiders.
Zach Huchel made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched 5.1 innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cole Miller, who fired off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 2-for-4. Those two home runs gave him a new career-high.
Hoopeston lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Oakwood's defeat dropped their record down to 5-7. As for Hoopeston, their record now sits at 3-9.
Oakwood's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's game. The Comets have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Hoopeston, though, as they've been averaging only 0.6 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Oakwood continue to outrun the ball?
Oakwood skirted past Hoopeston 1-0 in their previous matchup back in April of 2025. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Comets since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
