Monterey Trail entered their tilt with Cosumnes Oaks on Friday with 11 consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with 12. They were the clear victor by a 49-29 margin over the Cosumnes Oaks Wolfpack. The Mustangs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight matches by 20 points or more this season.

Monterey Trail's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Alia Wilson led the charge by going 6-for-9 en route to 15 points and three steals. Wilson is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 24 games she's played dating back to last season. Aniyah Whipper was another key player, going 5-for-6 to rack up 10 points along with seven rebounds and four blocks.

Monterey Trail smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in three consecutive contests.

Cosumnes Oaks' defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Malaya Laforga, who posted seven points and eight boards. That's the most points Laforga has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Mendenhall, who earned three points in addition to eight rebounds and four steals.

Monterey Trail's win was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-5. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.4 points over those games. As for Cosumnes Oaks, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-15.

Coincidentally, Monterey Trail and Cosumnes Oaks will both be playing Pleasant Grove the next time they take the court. Monterey Trail will host Pleasant Grove at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, while Cosumnes Oaks will head out to face them at 6:30 p.m. on February 14th.
