If the Mount de Sales Academy Sailors were feeling good off their 56-19 takedown of the Annapolis Area Christian Eagles on Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Mount de Sales Academy opened the new year with a less-than-successful 51-39 loss to Gerstell Academy. Mount de Sales Academy lost against Gerstell Academy in their previous head to head back in December of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 50-39 score last time.
Despite the loss, Mount de Sales Academy still got an impressive performance from Mackenzie Conley, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Those seven rebounds set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Katie Carroll, who scored six points along with 12 rebounds.
Gerstell Academy was led to victory by Miley Alguire and Taylor Moran. Alguire dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 rebounds, while Moran scored 22 points along with four steals. Those 13 points set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Kiara Hardy, who scored four points along with six steals.
Mount de Sales Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 8-4. As for Gerstell Academy, they pushed their record up to 4-5 with that win, which was their third straight on the road.
Mount de Sales Academy will be playing in front of their home fans against Friends at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Friends will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Maryland Rankings (they are ranked 251st, while Mount de Sales Academy is ranked 69th). Gerstell Academy is on the road again on Monday and play against Westminster at 6:30 p.m. on January 8th.
