The Houlka Wildcats pushed their score all the way to 55 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a hard 70-55 fall against West Union. While losing is never fun, Houlka can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 207th, while the Eagles are ranked 31st).
When it comes to explaining why Houlka lost, one person who can't be blamed is Nehemiah Flemmings. Despite the final result, he scored 14 points along with six rebounds. Shavar Gladney was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Houlka has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-13 record this season. As for West Union, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 21-4.
Houlka will look to defend their home court on Monday against the Trojans at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully Bruce focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 30 last Thursday. As for West Union, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Hawks at 7:00 p.m. on January 27th.
